Project Profile

The University of St. Thomas, Minnesota's largest private university, hosts over 9,000 students across eight schools and colleges. Its Owens Science Center, the main biology research facility, features multiple labs, a greenhouse, a darkroom, and classrooms. Recently, the University decided to upgrade the worn terrazzo epoxy flooring in the center's hallways, which had deteriorated due to heavy traffic.

The University's facilities team knew they needed to act, but they were confronted with three significant constraints:

  1. Budget limitations ruled out a full replacement with new polished epoxy terrazzo.
  2. Time was of the essence, with a narrow window for renovation to minimize disruption.
  3. Only one large section needed replacement, requiring a seamless match with existing flooring.

Collaborating with Resinwerks Master Installer, St. Paul Lino, the University chose a Simerrazzo™ simulated terrazzo epoxy flooring system. While not an exact replica of polished epoxy terrazzo, Simerrazzo™ offers a durable and visually similar alternative. Resinwerks worked directly with the installer and client to develop a custom blend matching the existing floor. After several iterations, the final blend was selected and installed over the course of one week.
