PepsiCo is a global fortune 500 company that operates in over 200 countries with revenues of $86 billion dollars per year. In addition to Pepsi® Cola, PepsiCo manufactures several well-known brands such as Frito Lay, Gatorade and Quaker Oats. In 2023, PepsiCo contacted Resinwerks for flooring samples to test in a new hangar floor that services its Frito Lay office headquarters in Addison, TX.

Spanning over 15,000 square feet, this facility maintains two private aircraft that transport Frito Lay executives to locations around the world. Aviation hangars offer unique challenges when it comes to flooring. Among other requirements, these applications must exhibit superior chemical resistance with high compressive strength that is able to withstand heavy point loads from aircraft tires. After testing a range of systems, PepsiCo selected a heavy-duty aviation flooring system from Resinwerks which was designed for their unique needs.

Performance Requirements:

In addition to the ability to withstand heavy loads, PepsiCo wanted to ensure UV stability along with high chemical & stain resistance. The system consisted of a polyurethane concrete primer and self-leveling mortar, followed by a high-performance epoxy grout and 3-component moisture-cure urethane topcoat in a bright white color. Specifically engineered for heavy-duty applications, this system provided the maintenance team at PepsiCo with a highly functional and aesthetically appealing floor.

The High-performance urethane top-coat was fortified with additives for enhanced scratch resistance. In addition, the aliphatic urethane finish was completely UV stable - a necessity in a bright white floor often exposed to UV light. 

Mobilization to complete the hanger project took approximately 4 to 5-days. The flooring system was left to cure for an additional 48-hours following the final topcoat. This new system will provide Pepsi with a long-term flooring solution that is engineered to withstand the daily challenges of a high traffic private aviation hangar.

  • Urethane Cement Primer 

Base-Coat: BioCem™ SL Slurry

  • Self-Leveling Urethane Cement SLurry for a Smooth Finish

Mid Coat: Rapid H2O EP™

  • Fast-cure, thick build water based pigmented white epoxy for optimal inter-coat adhesion

Top-Coat: Pigmented HDC 100™ Urethane 

  • High-Traffic, UV Stable 95% solids fortified urethane for ultra-high abrasion resistance.
